Univeral To Make Video Games

Universal Studios today announced that they will enter the video game market. They decided to make the move in order to work closely on tie-in movie games whilst getting rid of the outside publishers.

WANTED will be the first game from the studio due to hit in early 2009 in which it follows off from where the successful Jolie/Mcavoy film left off.

Interestingly people may remember Universal publishing games before becoming Vivendi Games. Most famously they published the original Crash Bandicoot series on the Psone under Naughty Dog’s reign.

Whilst I like the idea off continuing films such as WANTED I think we all know where this is going. Yet more crappy, rushed and licensed games in an already saturated market. Hooray.

It is also worth nothing that many other large Film Studios deal with video games in-house such as Paramount and Warner Bros.

Valkyria Chronicles Details - Must Peep

Valkyria Chronicles is a Tactical Action RPG Playstation 3 exclusive coming Fall 2008.

They use a graphics engine called "CANVAS” which gives you Cutting-edge graphics producing breathtaking artwork that work beautifully for the capabilities of the Playstation3. Creates images that look like pastel / watercolor paintings in motion.

They aslo have a battle system called the “BLiTZ” tactical battle system where you experience strategic maneuvering of units as in conventional RPG gameplay but at the same time, add the excitement of action games with real-time controls to command each player.

Epic storyline, the players will immerse themselves in the epic struggle for freedom, as the fate of the world lies in the hands of Welkin and members of the 7th platoon.

This game also offers customization of over 100 customizable characters that allow players to create a variety of platoons to suit each battle’s needs.

Also going towards the CANVAS graphics engine the game has beautifully rendered battlefields where players explore 30 different environments, using each terrain to gain advantage in battle.

Download TV & Movies via Playstation Store TONIGHT!

Fresh from watching E3 once again, Sony just announced the ability to download and watch television shows and movies by using the PlayStation store. You can buy movies ranging from 9.99 to 14.99 and rent movies from 1.99 to 5.99 (USD).

Sony has partnerships with big name studios like Sony Pictures, Fox Film & Televisions, Lionsgate, MGM, Disney, Paramount, and a few more that I cannot name right now.

God Of War III Confirmed!

inFamous Gameplay Shown Tonight

MK Vs DC Universe Impressions..

Ive followed the MK franchise sense the first Mortal Kombat game which was back in 1992 and I must say when I first heard this, I thought it was the worst idea ever. I was so pissed off at the fact MK would do something like this. No fatalities, no gore that’s not MK. If there’s no gore, blood or limbs and brains flying everywhere that’s not MK, lets be real. DC, I mean come on couldn’t they get another good opponent?Well I was wrong, they say never judge a book by its cover and that’s exactly what I did. This game looks great, the graphics are nice, the characters have some adjustments to be made, but I must say I'm really looking forward to when this game hits the selves come this fall. From Ed Boom himself, he said “were looking at a 20 man roster 10 from DC’s side and 10 From Mk side.” I was excited, I was thinking of so many people. I mean lets be real guys who doesn’t want to see scorpion decapitate batman! That’s all I have for now and I'll be back come E3 when they announce 4 more characters.

Siren Blood Curse Story Trailer

This is the story trailer of Siren Blood Curse comming summer 2008, I have played and beat the demo as of yesterday. I must say I will be picking up this title, I guess its because I like scary games like condemned 2. For gamers that love horror games, this is a must buy. The controls are great, gameplay is great and from what I've seen in the trailer and in the demo the story is great also. Besides being a fan of horror games it can add a different taste to your gaming collection, right?

PAIN! Amusement Park

PAIN! The physics based game that is downloadable on the PSN store has a New Video of Amusement Park, featuring new multiplayer and trophies on GAMETRAILERS. I have yet to buy this game and I've been dying to get it and I haven't got around to it. When this update and Map pack comes I will definitely get this game.

Why PS3 games install

The reason as to why a certain amount of Playstation 3 games require an install. Its because its quicker to read the game data from the hard drive rather than the Blu-Ray disc. This also means shorter loading times during gameplay. "I bet your now thinking does that mean every game will be installed to the hard drive", the answer is no. Look at Call of Duty 4 and Uncharted Drake’s Fortune, they didn’t require an install and ran fantastically well. Game developers are working around this by taking a more pro-active approach to Blu-Ray’s data transfer technology. Some are working with streaming methods that load data while your playing, others are duplicating frequent required data around the disc so it can be located and loaded up faster.

Chief software architect at Eutechnyx, Dr Andrew Perella says:
“The biggest benefit of loading data from hard drive as opposed to Blue-ray is that the seek times are lower. Games that make use of lot of user customisations are hit hard by this as the developer cannot know ahead of time what will need to be loaded”

Pete Hines of Bethesda, the vice president of public relations and marketing says:
“we get around it by doing caching to the hard drive behind the scenes. And yes, we do have more than one copy of data on the disc in different locations to make the streaming process faster.”

Square's Line Up...NO FANTASY!

Square Enix has posted their OFFICIAL line up for E3 on N4G. I reviewed the list and I'm not a huge RPG fan, but what caught my eye right away when browsing through the list of games to be released and on what system, there was no mention of the FINAL FANTASY GAMES for the PS3...SQUARE STEP YA GAME UP! ;)

LittleBigPlanet to feature Trophy support

Media Molecule Co-Founder and Technical Director, David Smith, has confirmed the inclusion of Trophy support in the developer’s highly anticipated PlayStation 3 title, LittleBigPlanet.

Speaking with Eurogamer during a live chat, Smith commented, "We've been having a lot of fun working out what trophies most fit our game. Because we have this catchphrase of 'Play, Create, Share', the trophies (and indeed some of the other scoring systems) reflect this.”

He also touched on the requirements for unlocking one of the game’s trophies, stating that players would have to make their "sackperson be thrown at some huge velocity," suggesting that a user created machine would be needed to accomplish the task.

LittleBigPlanet is due out exclusively on PS3 later this year.

HALO COMING TO PLAYSTATION 3?

The title says Halo, not Halo 3 which means we’re talking about the movie adaptation of the videogame. According to PS3Fanboy, there’s a rumor going that the Fox movie company has picked up the license rights for the upcoming Halo movie which is being produced by Peter Jackson.

Update: It’s come to our attention that Fox doesn’t have anything to do with the movie. The videogame merchandise will be handled by Fox apparently.

Now the funny part is that Fox is exclusively releasing their high definition videos on Blu-ray discs, which means that Playstation 3 owners can watch this movie on their consoles, whilst Xbox 360 gamers have to settle with the DVD version instead. Microsoft also explicitly stated that they won’t release a Blu-ray add-on drive. Microsoft does have the Video Marketplace which is also offering high definition content, but that’s plagued with 2-week DRM annoyances. Keep in mind that this is still a rumor, but it would definitely be quite funny that Microsoft’s most popular videogame franchise’s movie-adaptation is limited to Blu-ray.

I posted several things here on firmware 2.4 even though we are all aware of it by now because we ps3 fans have been screaming for IN-GAME FEATURES for some time. Not to make any excuses for Sony cuz the shit should have been there at launch, but we can now see the importance of delays when it comes to firmware and games. I would rather wait for a GREAT GAME (MGS4) instead of them releasing Turok like they did. I know some of you will say, "HAZE" but that's an exception to the rule and best believe the Crew is going to smash that game as well as developers putting out this ported frame rate shit. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE. Back to what I was saying about waiting. Delays in games are inevitable and delays in firmware updates are CRUCIAL, cuz I want my shit to work.
